Nuclear Magnetic Resonance ( NMR ) is a powerful and sophisticated biophysical technique with broad applications in many disciplines.

The High Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Center ( HFNMRC ) was first established in 2002 by Dr.Tai-huang Huang, under the support from National Research Program for Genomic Medicine, to meet the challenging needs in structure-functional characterization of proteins and other macromolecules in the post-genomic era. Since 2015, HFNMRC become one of the core facilities under Division of Instrument Center in Academia Sinica. It is our goal to make this a truly world-class national high-field NMR facility to support and promote structural genomics, structural biology and pharmaceutically related research and developmental activities in Taiwan in general.

The thrusts of NMR spectroscopy are:

  1. It is the only method for determining macromolecular structure in near physiological conditions.
  2. It is the best method for determining molecular dynamics over broad time scale in atomic details.
  3. It is a powerful and efficient method for determining molecular interactions.
  4. It is a powerful method for probing macromolecular folding and disordered states.
  5. It is a rapid and efficient method for screening drugs and small ligands that interact with macromolecules and receptors.

Currently, HFNMRC operates and maintains six state-of-the-art NMR spectrometers:

  1. One 500 MHz NMR spectrometer equipped with TXI / QNP cryoprobe
  2. Three 600 MHz NMR spectrometer equipped with TXI / TCI / TXO cryprobe
  3. One 800 MHz NMR spectrometer equipped with TXI cryoprobe
  4. One 850 MHz NMR spectrometer equipped with TCI cryoprobe
